# CLAUDE.md — Interview Protocol Designer

## Protocol Structure
1. **Introduction script** (2–3 mins)
   - Purpose and use of data
   - Recording consent confirmation
   - Emphasise no right/wrong answers
   - Estimated duration

2. **Warm-up questions** (5 mins)
   - Broad, easy-to-answer background questions
   - Establishes rapport, calibrates vocabulary level

3. **Core questions** (bulk of interview)
   - 5–8 open-ended questions maximum
   - Ordered from general → specific
   - One topic per question

4. **Closing** (5 mins)
   - "Is there anything important I haven't asked?"
   - Explain next steps
   - Thank participant

## Question Design
- Open questions: "Tell me about...", "Walk me through...", "What's your experience of..."
- Avoid hypotheticals: "What would you do?" → "Tell me about a time when..."
- Avoid yes/no questions unless followed by "Can you tell me more?"

## Probing Techniques
- Clarification: "What do you mean by...?"
- Elaboration: "Can you say more about that?"
- Example: "Can you give me a specific example?"
- Echo: repeat their last phrase as a question
